how can i make bunk beds out of queen sized beds?
we're moving to an apartment soon and my sister and i really want to keep our queen-sized beds, but we also want bunk beds because they're more fun and leave more space.
they are 2 separate beds...how could we go about doing this?

The weight and size of a queen bed is going to be kind of hard and unrealistic to have one on top of the other. Also to get it sturdy enough, I would think a carpenter would have to do it, then you're going to get into money and this may not be worth it.
There are many reasons not to do this. You would have a lot of weight from the 2 beds focused on the bearing points (corner posts) of the frame. The size of the bed would require you to use heavier framing 2x10 side rails, probably 2x6 slats under the box spring. You'd never get a carpenter to guarantee that it would work. It sounds fun, but it's just not practical. Sorry.
get two bed frames with wood columns on the corners and a really big drill bit. drill a hole about 1/16in bigger than a hard wood dowel rod. drill them all the same depth and stack...

or you could just go out and buy a frame...

I have seen one of these before. I don't know what the actual name of the brand was though. It was quite a beast to put together. It has 3x3" posts on each corner and then 2x6" side rails with a 2" lip that stuck out. On top of that was a 1" sold piece of wood. You obviously would not want to put box springs on top of something like this. I don't know where you would go about getting one of these, but you could check with local furniture stores.
