I have a set of bunk beds with screw in slat rolls, do I still need to use bunkie boards with them.?

Yes you do! For all over support and to help preserve the mattress.
The slats support the bunkie board. The bunkie board supports the mattress. Yes - you need both.
If it comes with slats roll (not just 3 pieces of wooden slats), no bunkie board is needed. The slats roll serve as the support for the mattress.
