Is there any way to reinforce a wobbly bookcase?
I have seven-foot, freestanding wooden bookcase in my home that wobbles a bit. It's only a slight wobble, but it makes me nervous and I'd like to reinforce it somehow to make sure the sides stand perfectly straight and it doesn't get worse. I remember once reinforcing the sides of a wooden bed frame using some sort of thin steel connectors, so I was thinking about trying something along those lines. The case has an open back, so it will have either be hidden behind the shelves or aesthetically pleasing. I can't bracket the piece to the wall. I need advice about what to do and where to get the materials. Simply replacing the bookcase is not an option.

all you require is these fantastic little things called "L-Hooks". what they do is screw into your bookcase & then screw into the wall--usually the people at the hardware store can advise what kind of screw & anchor should be used for the type of wall you have (ie. drywall/plaster, etc).

I would suggest, from personal experience, 2 on top, and 2 on each side.

They work really well! Good Luck (btw the L hooks are pretty cheap, about $3.00 for pack of 2 or 3.)
The open back is the problem and the easiest solution, which would appear to be excluded. Try L-brackets at the corners and T-brackets at each shelf. Also might try little cube of wood up under the shelves attached to the sides/top/bottom.
If its just slighty uneven I would just use some shim shingle you can wedge it under the lowest spot trim with a utility knife and be done.you really don't want to drill into the furniture or the floor.because when you go to move it then you have holes to fix.
